THE CHALLENGE

“The State of the Majors” is the jewelry industry’s must-have annual business reference — a definitive benchmark issue featuring national rankings, market data, and in-depth reporting on the forces shaping the industry today.

The design needed to carry that authority while delivering a refined, luxury-forward reading experience. Nearly 80 pages of complex data systems, multi-section features, and advertiser integration required a layout architecture that could flex without losing rhythm or clarity.

This issue had to be both definitive and beautiful.

THE APPROACH

A modular grid system was developed to support both long-form editorial features and complex ranking lists. Typography was refined to create clear hierarchy across dense statistical content, ensuring readability without sacrificing elegance.

Color was used strategically to distinguish recurring sections while maintaining cohesion across the full issue. Each feature was designed not in isolation, but in relationship to the whole — pacing spreads to guide the reader through data-heavy moments without visual fatigue.

Advertising integrations were carefully considered within the editorial rhythm, preserving both business objectives and reader experience.

The result is a flagship issue that feels authoritative, structured, and visually unified from cover to close.
